- Is an offer letter the same as an employment contract?
- Not usually. An offer letter records the headline terms and the invitation to accept; an employment agreement sets out the full terms of the job. Many companies send both, and some legal systems require particular terms in writing.
- What does at-will employment mean?
- It is a concept in some United States jurisdictions where either side may end the employment at any time, subject to exceptions. It has no equivalent in many other systems, which is why offer letters are written for the place the job is in.
- Can an offer be withdrawn?
- Offers commonly carry conditions — references, right to work, a start date — and say what happens if they are not met. What may be withdrawn, and when, is a matter for local employment law.
